Video Monitor & Sleep Sacks

Chris and I have a baby video monitor so we can sneak a peak at Cooper while he is sleeping. It has really come in handy when Cooper wakes in the middle of the night. We can see if he is alright without having to disturb him by going into his room. Once we go into his room he usually has a hard time settling down again so this device is great for keeping us out of his room unless he really needs us.

Early this morning around 5am Cooper woke up and started to fuss. I turned on the video monitor and saw Cooper wiggling about. We still swaddle him but leave one arm out. He was trying to wiggle his other arm out and was thrashing his legs and body about. Then he started to lift up the right side of his body. Before you knew it, Cooper was laying on his left side… and then… he had tipped over on this is tummy. He has never rolled from his back to his tummy. I was amazed.! However, because he is swaddled his right arm was pinned underneath him and I am sure he was not very uncomfortable. He started to fuss louder. So Mommy came to the rescue. I turned him over and reswaddled him to go back to sleep. It took him 30 minutes to fall back to sleep, but thankfully he did fall back to sleep!

I say all this because I think it’s time to wean Cooper of his swaddle completely. Now that he can flip himself over, I think it is dangerous for him to have his arm held down in his blanket. Chris and I decided this morning to move him to a sleep sack. I am a little worried that Cooper will not sleep well if we don’t swaddle his one arm. I will give you all an update on Monday as to how Cooper handled his new sleeping blanket! Wish us luck!!!

Yay! I loved when Ocean was ready to be done swaddling. I too was nervous about the switch to a sleep sack, but it went much smoother than expected. I still use one :)!

Ocean was too big for any of the ones sold in stores though, so I started to make my own.

Hold up here. How is a sleep sack different from the pillow case I suggested months ago?

Robert, a sleep sac you can zip up and has wholes for the arms. I put a link to what the sleep sac looks like in my post. You should check it out!
