The Weekly Update (Issue #3)… Better Late Then Never

I know that I am late getting this out. I was suppose to post it on Sunday and here is it is Tuesday.

Cooper
Well, his leg is healing. But, it started to get very red and have some blisters. My awesome Mother-in-Law took Cooper to the doctors for me so we could make sure it was okay. The doctor prescribed a new ointment and an oral antibiotic. We are waiting on the oral antibiotic for 48 hours. If it does not show signs of improvement in 48 hours, we are to start the oral antibiotic.

Cooper has a blast at his friend’s Christian’s birthday party. We pumped him up about going to the birthday party for a few days. He kept talking about going to “Christian’s party” and “happy be-chew (birthday to you)”.  Once we got there, we hardly saw any of Cooper. He was in heaven playing with all of Christian’s toys, which were mostly cars. Do I need to say more? haha. He love eating the cupcake too! However, he was disappointed that there was no ice cream. Cooper watched his first birthday video leading up to the party and he saw himself eating ice cream. I think he expected that all birthday parties had ice cream. He has been talking about “Christian’s party” now for a few days. So glad he has so much fun! Here is a picture of him with some of the kids from the party. DSC_0535
Molly & Anna May

They might be on the path to cutting teeth. They are biting everything and droll city. I just hope that they are not as bad of teethers as Cooper was. Oh Cooper was miserable when he would cut teeth and he did not sleep well either. I saw Anna roll over from belly to back for the first time this week. She has done it before, but I have never witnesses it myself. Molly can roll in all directions, but Anna is still trying to master that skill.  Anna’s new found skill is blowing raspberries. She does it ALL THE TIME. It is really so cute.

The girls also were great this weekend. We took them to Christian’s birthday party and to church on Sunday. That was two huge disruptions to their schedule. They did great. They were not too fussy at the party at all. The girls even went down for bedtime at Mimi and Papa’s house while Chris and I went out to dinner for my birthday. We picked the girls up later that night and bought them home with us, but they did great. It is so nice to know they are becoming a little more flexible now that they are older (5 months).

Weekly Update Issue #2

Cooper
I earn bad mommy of the year award on this one. I was heading out with Cooper this past Wednesday morning for a women’s bible study. Chris was going to work from home while the girls napped. I poured coffee into my travel mug and sat it on the floor while I put Cooper’s sandals on. Cooper got up abruptly and swung his arm and knocked down my coffee mug. The coffee mug was half way open and the HOT HOT coffee poured out and all over Cooper’s outer thigh and knee. I took him into the kitchen and put ice on it (big no no, but I did not know any better. You are suppose to put cold running water on it). Then I called for Chris’s help. I called Cooper’s doctor office and they told me to take him to the emergence room. Chris took him and they said he had second and first degree burns. We have to put antibiotic cream on it and wrap it with an ace bandage. Poor Baby. The first 2-3 days he did not play much. I think it was hurting him too much and he just laid around and watch TV and pushed cars quietly on the floor. He frequently told, “leg hurts”. I will never put the coffee mug on the floor ever again.

(The video is of all 3 kids, but you can see Cooper’s ace bandaged leg where he burned himself in this video so I thought I would share it with y’all)

Molly
Molly (and Anna) are both very shy around people other than Chris and I. They get very fussy and start to cry frequently with other people. However, Molly has a new best friend. Our friends Brandi and James came over this past weekend with their daughter Kyla. James held Molly for a LONG time and never once did she fuss. She LOVED him!! He was holding her up in the air like an airplane and sitting with her on the couch watching football. It was so cute to see her so content in his arms. Here is a picture of Molly with her new friend James.

Anna
She gets spit up of the week award. I swear that last week I must have changed her outfit at least 3-4 times a day. I never know when she is going to spit up either. So half the time, I have to end up changing my clothing as well. I wonder when she is going to out grow spitting up?

Chris, Anna, & Cooper on Saturday Morning

Chris, Anna, & Cooper on Saturday Morning

The Week Update (Issue #1)

I have been terrible about updating our family blog. So I have decided that every Sunday I will try to post something, a week in a review, so to speak. So here you go, here is issue #1.

CooperDSC_0341
Cooper’s second birthday is coming up at the end of this month on September 22. I cannot believe he will be two years old. Amazing! Where has the time gone? Chris is falling more and more in love with Cooper every day. Cooper is daddy’s little side kick. Every Saturday morning, Chris mows the yard and you can always find Cooper outside wanting to help daddy. He loves to push his pretend lawn mower that Aunt Sarah and Uncle Trent gave him. He is also very fascinated with the oil and gas cans. Chris has even taught Cooper how to kills bugs and say, “Eewww, Bugs!” while he kills them.  Cooper loves to be outside and Chris loves that Cooper wants to be outside with him on Saturday mornings. It is so cute to see the two of them “working in the yard” together! Cooper continues to talk up a storm and his vocabulary increases every day. Cooper is turning into such a little boy. We are working on potty training, he pees in the potty more regularly now and still pooping in the potty! I am hoping to have him out of diapers by the first of the year. Also, he does not eat very often in his highchair anymore. He insists on sitting at the table on a regular chair with Chris and I. I am also not making him separate meals anymore, he pretty much eats what ever I make (but not always).  Chris’s mom, also known as Mimi, took Cooper to see a dinosaur exhibit at the zoo a few weeks ago. Ever since then, he has been all about dinosaurs. He even watches a TV show called “Dinosaur Train” and LOVES IT! How much better can it get than that?, it has trains and dinosaurs in one TV show! I love my little man and I wish I could bottle him up and keep him this way. I know this phase of life will go buy fast so I am trying my best to cherish it while I can.

Anna May & Molly

Anna May 4 Months Old

These girls are CUTE!!! I love this age. They are going to be 5 months old next week. The first 4 months were rough for me. I think it was the hardest thing I have ever done in my entire life. Those first 4 months are almost a blur to be honest. I am not even sure how I survived at times. But I made it and the girls are still alive, healthy, and growing, so I must have done something right, haha. But yes, Anna May and Molly are so stinken’ cute I cannot stand it. Anna is my quite one, but she has the most beautiful smile and gorgeous eyes. She melts me just by batting her eyes and showing me that toothless open mouthed grin. Molly is my social butter fly. She has to see what is going on at all times. If you are burping here, you better make sure you have her positioned so she can see what everyone is doing because she doesn’t like to miss anything. Molly also loves her jumperoo and will spend sometime every day standing up in it and jumping around. I have a feeling that Molly’s personality is going to be more like Cooper’s- on the go and social. The girls are still wearing 0-3 months clothes, but they are almost out of them. At their 4.5 month check up Anna weighed 11 lbs 10oz and Molly weighted 12 lbs 1oz. They are still tiny, but I have a feeling once they start to eat solid food more they will start to put on the pounds (at least that is what Cooper did).  The girls have eaten oatmeal, pears, and peas so far. They are still trying to get the hang of eating off a spoon, but they are slowly figuring it all out. The girls are sleeping well and napping better these days and I just hope they continue to do this to give me a little bit more of a break during the days :) Oh, the cutest thing the girls do is hold hands. They always end up holding hands when they are laying down on blanket or while nursing. It is the sweetest thing. I love it when I get them up from a nap and lay them on a blanket before I feed them and they look over at each other and just smile at one another. It is almost like they are saying, “hey, I know you, where have you been? I’ve missed you and I am so happy to see you again.” Then they always end up reaching for one another and grabbing hands. Aww!!

Well I promise to be more faithful about updating the blog. I will try to get some more picture and movies up as well. Now that the girls are older, I am hoping things will run a little bit more smoothly! Happy Sunday to you all :)

Has it really been 17 weeks?

Time really flies by with your second (and 3rd) child. With your first child, it seems time moves but slower. You have time to soak up every new and exciting thing your baby does, from first smiles to rolling over for the first time. Maybe with your first child you just get caught up in the moment and time just seems to proceed like an old slide show that is preserving all the timeless memories. Then you have your second child, and life does not have time to stand still and capture the moments. It feels more like a roller coaster ride, where it is over in a flash but a lot of laughs along the way. The girls will be 4 months on August 9th and they are 17 weeks in two days. They both are smiling, cooing, and more alert. Molly can flip from back to belly and sucks her thumb. Anna can roll on her side and is sucking her fingers, but still takes a pacifier. They are both adorable and melting our hearts daily. But, where did the time go?? They are not newborns anymore. Before I know it, they are going to be sitting up and even crawling. As much as I don’t like the newborn phase, I am going to miss them as tiny little babies. I feel like I missed out on soaking them up like I did with Cooper. We don’t have nearly as many pictures of the girls as newborns as we did of Cooper. I did not have time to just sit on the couch and stair into their little eyes. Maybe because it was different because I had a toddler to take care of too, or maybe it was different because I had TWO newborns to take care of. Not sure. I still cannot believe that we are finally out of the newborn phase.

Cooper has changed a ton in these 17 weeks. He is talking a ton. He is able to put two words phrases and simple sentences together. “Mama sit”, “Cooper eat”, “Baby cry”, “blue car”, “cold water”. He has learned his to recognize all of the letters in the alphabet from a DVD called “Meet the Letters” by the Preschool Prep Company. He knows all his colors too. He can count 2,3,4. For some reason he refuses to say the number one, haha. He does occasionally count 5,6, and then skips to 9. His potty training is coming along well. He is finally starting to ask to pee in the potty and he is still pooping in the potty. I am so proud of him. He never regressed with the potty training when the babies were born. He is also a big help to me now. He will bring me a burp rag or a diaper. If one of the babies cries, he will go over to one of them and say, “it’s okay” and put a hand on them or try to make them smile. He is such a good big brother. He loves his sisters (most of the time).

I wanted to also publicly thank my in-laws, Ken and Margie Foley. Without them, I am not sure I would have made it through these first 17 weeks. They took Cooper for a day, a night, or a weekend here and there to give me a much needed break after sleepless nights and illnesses. Thanks you Ken and Margie! I am so glad to have at least some of my family near by. It would be even better if my father, step-mom, and sister were close by too because I know they would help out like that too, but I am grateful that I at least have Chris’s parents so close. They are only 10 minutes from us. Thanks Ken and Margie!!

Cooper just had to get in the laundry basket and put all his cars in there with him. He stayed in the basket for at least 30 minutes if not longer. I had to get a snap shot of him having fun!

They Won’t Know

Cooper loves crackers! For dinner last night he had cut up pear, sweet potato, and chicken nuggets. But Cooper really wanted to eat crackers. I gave him two, but once they were finished he wanted more crackers. I told Cooper he had to finish his pears first. So Cooper shoved a bunch of pears in his mouth. I gave him one cracker for eating most of his pears. However, Cooper wanted another cracker. I told him to finish his pears again. He put a piece of pear in his mouth and I started to hand him a cracker, but he spit it out to eat the cracker instead. I took the cracker away from him and Cooper got every upset. Again, I told him to eat the 3 pieces of pear left and then I would give him the cracker. So Cooper put one piece of pear in his mouth and proceeded to take the remaining 2 pieces of pear and shove them under his highchair tray and “hide” the pear. Did Cooper really think we would not know that he just “hid” the pear? He hid them right in front of our eyes. HAHA!!! You have got to love the mind of a 20 month old toddler. Chris scooped up the hidden pear and told Cooper to finish them. Cooper finally finished the pear and I gave him his hard earned cracker!

The light at the end of the tunnel

The girls will be 8 weeks old on Friday. The last 8 weeks have been so much of a blur. I can hardly believe that I even made it this far. The first 5 weeks were not so bad. The girls were super easy newborns and all they did was sleep. Then something happened right in around 5.5 weeks old, they decided to wake up and stop napping, hit two growth spurts, and just get a little more fussy than before. All I feel like I do is breastfeed, burp, change diapers, swaddle, and wipe spit up off myself and the girls. Cooper has seen so much of this process that he has even started to pat me on the back to “help burp” me, haha. I long for the days when we will be out of diapers, not covered in spit up,  and marathon nursing every 2-3 hours during the day. I would like to reclaim a little free time to just eat lunch. Today I put my left over dinner in the microwave to eat, but then everything possible went wrong and I never ate my lunch. My reheated lunch just sat in the microwave until dinner time when I found it sitting there untouched, ooppss.

So that is my life with two month old twins and a 20 month old toddler. I know that there is a light at the end of the tunnel and that things will improve over time, but right now I feel like I am muddling my way through in the dark and just hoping that I stumble across the light switch one of these days. You know I cried when I found out I was having twins, not tears or joy, but tears of fear and sorrow. I knew how hard it is to take care of a newborn, but to take care of two newborns, I knew it would be hard. AND IT IS HARD! I think one of the hardest things is getting them down for their naps and also trying to make sure that Cooper is safe and not getting himself into trouble while I am soothing the girls and laying them down for a nap. Poor Cooper has spent many a start to a nap in his playpen so that I know he cannot harm himself.

I have been shedding a few tears the past two days feeling just overwhelmed with life. You know, Chris and I have been married for 3 year on June 2nd. Last night I looked up at Chris and just laughed at our life. Never in my wildest dream would have ever imagined being married for only 3 years with 3 children. You can never predict the future and what God has in store for you. I just pray that God gives me the strength to muddle through the next few months.
P.S. Chris says we are averaging one kid per year. So how many kids will we have in 10 years? Any bets?
